NPA expects 30 ships of petroleum products, food items, others

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has said it is expecting 30 ships laden with petroleum products, food items and other goods from December 20 to January 8.The agency made this known in its publication, “Shipping Position” a copy which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos yesterday.

According to the document, the ships are to arrive at the Lagos Ports Complex.It said the vessels are containing petrol, base oil, containers, general cargo, steel pipes, bulk sugar, frozen fish, bulk salt and buck wheat.NPA confirmed that 20 ships had arrived at the ports, waiting to berth with containers and fuel.

Also, the organisation said 16 other ships are at the facilities discharging goods. Meanwhile, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has advised Lagos residents to shun panic buying and stockpiling of petroleum products during the festive season, assuring that there would not be scarcity.

The Chief Technical Officer of the Lagos Zonal Office, Obafemi Ogunbajo, gave the assurance yesterday during surveillance and inspection tours of retail outlets in the state.Also, the agency urged Taraba residents to shun anxious purchase of petrol, as there was sufficiency.

The Head, Retail Outlets and Marketing of the DPR, Jalingo Field Office, Ibrahim Yakubu, made the appeal in Jalingo after unscheduled visits to filling stations in parts of the state.In Bayelsa, the agency sealed three petrol stations in Yenagoa, for under-dispensing and lack of basic operational equipment.

A team of officials, led by the Assistant Chief Officer Administration in the state field office, Oshodi Prince, effected the action.In Oyo, the Operation Controller, Ibadan Field Office of DPR, Oluyemi Olaonipekun, told indigenes and residents alike in Ibadan that the volume of products in circulation was sufficient for till March next year.
